For years we have been active with a comprehensive project for the Asian elephants in Sri Lanka.
For this purpose, ASERC - Austrian Sri Lankan Elephant Research and Conservation Project was established in 2005 - with the primary objective of alleviating the massive conflict between human and elephant.

Our contribution is complex and includes animal protection, research, development as well as environmental education, especially in the marginal areas of the national parks Yala and Udawalawe.

In January 2016, extensive educational and environmental protection projects could be launched by ASERC in some new schools.

All three schools are located north of the Udawalawe National Park in a more or less dry area, which is characterized by rice cultivation.

One of these new schools, the Sunday Buddhist School, is directly related to the junior college in Laginagala, where we have been organizing and establishing a special species conservation and environmental education training for a number of years through a Saturday school.

In the now newly sponsored Damwelodiya Sunday School, students from 5 to 17 years of age from various colleges, including students of Laginagala, participate in an innovative species protection and environmental education under the guidance of the Buddhist priest and director Rev. Welipatha Pannananda and the entire teachers of the Damwelodiya schools.

Corresponding planning and preparatory work for this larger-scale new ASERC school project were already carried out in 2015.

Since the start of ASERC many projects with numerous conservation education activities could be realized till now.
A great step in active environmental education.

My special thanks go to Mr. Lalith Seneviratne, without whose consistent and tireless commitment all these projects could not be carried out in such intensity.

As an ASERC co-founder, Lalith was and is not only a more reliable partner in the field, but also a very good and long-lasting friend, which we always can trust.

Already shortly after the new cooperation start, remarkable results were achieved and many projects were tackled.
